Toll Rate Increase Depends On The Government

AFA PRIME Berhad, the concessionaire for the KL-Karak Highway and the East Coast Expressway 1 (LPT1), is hoping for a slight toll rate increase after the completion of the highway widening and flood mitigation projects, which involve a total cost of RM2.3 billion.

AFA Group chairman Tan Sri Azmil Khalili Khalid said, however, that any increase in toll rates for the KL-Karak Highway and LPT1 would ultimately depend on the government’s decision.

“We hope there will be a slight increase, but our focus right now is to complete the KL-Karak Highway Widening Project and the LPT1 Flood Mitigation Project.

“It is up to the government. Once these projects are completed, we will look at what the government agrees to under the concession agreement.

“The government will review the traffic volume and the scope of the project works before deciding on the toll rates. As you know, all toll rates are regulated by the government,” he said during a media briefing in Kuala Lumpur yesterday.

The KL-Karak Highway spans 60 kilometres, while LPT1 covers a distance of 174 kilometres.

At present, the toll rate for Class 1 vehicles along the two highways is RM9.50, covering the Gombak and Bentong toll plazas, while the toll from Karak Toll Plaza to Kuantan Toll Plaza is RM19.60, excluding several interchanges such as Temerloh, Maran and Gambang.
