Azmil Khalid Appointed New MAHB Chairman

KUALA LUMPUR: Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) has appointed Tan Sri Dr Azmil Khalid as its new chairman effective June 18.

Azmil succeeds Dr Nungsari Ahmad Radhi, who stepped down after more than two years as chairman following his appointment as a director on the board of Khazanah Nasional Bhd.

MAHB said Azmil brings more than three decades of experience in corporate leadership, infrastructure development and international business.

He previously served as president and chief executive officer of The AlloyMtd Group and ANIH Bhd between 2011 and 2017, and held senior leadership roles at MTD Capital Bhd.

Azmil is currently group chairman of AFA Group and president and CEO of AFK Group.

He also chairs UEM Edgenta Bhd and several other entities.

The board expressed its appreciation to Nungsari for steering MAHB through a key transition period, including its landmark privatisation exercise.

During his tenure, MAHB was delisted from Bursa Malaysia in February 2025 and became a private entity under the Gateway Development Alliance consortium.

The company said Nungsari also oversaw critical operational and structural milestones, including major capital projects and terminal expansion initiatives at Penang and Kota Kinabalu international airports.

"Dr. Nungsari brought an invaluable perspective during his tenure to balance between the goup's commercial focus post-privatisation and its national duty to manage Malaysia's vital aviation infrastructure," Malaysia Airports said.

The board also announced that Datuk Mohd Izani Ghani's tenure as managing director has been extended for another two years, effective Aug 1.

MAHB said the extension aims to maintain leadership continuity and support the execution of its strategic initiatives.

"The board aims to strengthen organisational stability and ensure uninterrupted execution of MAHB's core strategic initiatives, towards positioning Malaysia as the most connected country in Asia Pacific," it added. – News Straits Times
